Dr. Steffi Dreha-Kulaczewski

Steffi Dreha-Kulaczewski, M.D. is a pediatric neurologist and assistant professor at the pediatrics department of the University Hospital Goettingen, Germany. She has a particular interest in childhood CSF disorders and works closely with the department’s pediatric neurosurgeons. Together, they run a weekly interdisciplinary outpatient clinic for children and adolescents who have to undergo neurosurgical interventions due to a broad spectrum of underlying pathologies, like, e.g., an occlusive hydrocephalus.

Furthermore, using ultrafast MRI-methods she and her group study CSF flow in the intracranial and spinal CSF spaces. These measurements have led to new insights into flow dynamics and their driving forces as well as the important connection to the venous system. They have identified deep inspiration as a major driver of CSF flow from the lower end of the spinal canal upwards into the cranium. Currently, the group applies the methods to various childhood forms of hydrocephalus, Chiari malformations and spinal cord pathologies.
