CBT Tools for Coping with Chronic Illness
A discussion and workshop with Victoria Felix, PhD, psychologist who currently works with women in the cognitive therapy space. Dr. Felix shows us how situations naturally impact our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and explains how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help us manage those situations of "suffering" to increase quality of life.
What is CBT? How can we use it to modulate our thinking or behavior with the aim of decreasing the intensity of our emotion to make a decision that is healthiest for us. Dr. Felix discusses and workshops things like cognitive distortions, the importance of schemas, and real life situations where we both engaged in unhealthy coping as well as healthy coping.
This was presented at the Unite@theHill wellness seminar on May 7, 2023. This biennial event held in/near Washington, D.C. includes a half-day of wellness seminars to help patients and families self-advocate. The next day is a full day of meetings with those patients’/family members’ federal representatives on Capitol Hill, which helps patients and families advocate for millions of others.
