A minimum of 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise is recommended per person, at least three times per week... but having a disorder like Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) can make it hard to achieve this goal. Issues like vascular pooling is very common in patients with hypermobility disorders or disorders of orthostatic intolerance/vascular issues (like POTS).

Expert cardiologist Dr. Stacy Fisher explains how patients can overcome these issues and still keep heart healthy! For instance, staying well-hydrated (preferably with extra sodium in these patients-- think sports drinks!) can decrease vascular pooling symptoms. Other EDS patients have found that wearing a pressure garment before and during exercise can greatly help reduce vascular pooling and discomfort during exercise. (2017)
