Dr. Alexander Tucker

Dr. Alexander Tucker

Alexander Tucker, MD, FAANS, is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and an attending neurosurgeon specializing in Chiari Malformations and complex spinal disorders. Additionally, Dr. Tucker is co-Director for the CHOP Chiari Clinic and the Director of Neurosurgery Spine in the Division of Neurosurgery.

Areas of Expertise:

Chiari malformation, complex spinal fusion and other spinal disorders, baclofen pump insertion for the treatment of spasticity, craniofacial procedures, achondroplasia/skeletal dysplasia, and hydrocephalus.

Research Interests:

Dr. Tucker’s research interests include the creation of new medical devices, such as a painless wound closure adhesives to promote comfortable, flexible healing of surgical incisions. Additionally, he has created a resorbable cranial distractor for the treatment of craniosynostosis.

Background:

Dr. Tucker operates on a broad range of spinal disorders and has particular interest in Chiari malformations. He works closely with families and clinicians from all over the country and around the world to establish and confirm diagnoses, provide education, and make treatment recommendations so that families can make informed decisions. Dr. Tucker and his team at CHOP offer the full range of treatment options for children and teens with Chiari malformation.

Dr. Tucker is passionate about the care of children and working as part of the team of world-class doctors, nurses and scientists at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
