My name is Syed Hassan Abbas Akbari, and I am currently a faculty member in pediatric neurosurgery at Penn State Health in Hershey, PA. I obtained my medical degree and a Master’s in Clinical Investigation from Washington University in St. Louis. I completed my residency in neurological surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, where I worked with Dr. David Limbrick, the Principal Investigator for the Park-Reeves Syringomyelia Research Consortium. After residency, I completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. My clinic interests include Chiari malformations and syringomyelia specifically pertaining to optimizing treatment outcomes, as well as spasticity and cerebral palsy. My primary research interest is in Chiari malformations, and I continue to work with Dr. Limbrick and the Park-Reeves Consortium to determine the preoperative, postoperative, treatment, and socioeconomic implications of Chari and syringomyelia.
