What We Know About Chiari & Neuroimaging Research

Video Poster
CM1 is interesting, rather, difficult in that the anatomy and imaging do not always correlate with severity of symptoms. So the imaging currently required to diagnose a Chiari Type 1 Malformation may show a snapshot of "adequate" tonsillar descent, but it is not necessarily useful where treatment may be concerned. Because of this, to gain a better understanding of CM1, and as part of a research goal at Washington University, St. Louis to redefine Chiari, Dr. Jarod Roland is looking at different types of imaging aside from the traditional, static MRI. Dr. Roland explains other types of neuro-imaging including: more advanced MR imaging, dynamic, and functional and how this information may be more useful in diagnosing and treating CM1. The more data that can be collected, the more accurately doctors can diagnose and treat patients with CM1.   Listen to Dr. Jennifer Strahle's lecture from this meeting to hear more about ongoing research.   Find out how to get involved with this research at http://chiari.wustl.edu/research.   This lecture was given at St. Louis Children's Hospital on July 15th.
