Chiari Malformation: Diagnosis, Management & Treatment

Video Poster
MEDICAL CITY DALLAS - DALLAS, TX - FEBRUARY 5, 2020
Anyone who has just been diagnosed or who has just had their child diagnosed should watch a presentation like this one. Chiari malformation can be a scary diagnosis, but Dr. Ian Heger gives a fantastic overview of Chiari I malformation-- what parents or patients should look out for, and what they need not worry about, too!

Dr. Heger also describes some of the related disorders which might complicate diagnosis and treatment of Chiari, including syringomyelia, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hydrocephalus, intracranial hypotension (CSF leak), etc..

Most importantly, Dr. Heger goes into excellent detail about the goals of Chiari surgery (sometimes called decompression surgery, or posterior fossa decompression) and what makes a surgery "successful" or not. He even details the various techniques involved in surgical treatment, and what each of them mean for the patient.

Overall, this is a must-watch if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Chiari and/or are considering a decompression neurosurgery of the back of the skull.

This presentation was given at the February 5, 2020 meeting at Medical City Dallas in Dallas, TX. (2020)
