Dr. Sarah Cohen-Solomon is a pediatrician and and pediatric specialist with an expertise in diagnosing and treating Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders, Dysautonomia including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), and spinal instability in the pediatric population.

In this presentation, Dr. Cohen-Solomon provides an explanation of the differences between hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) in children. She explains the history and evolving understanding of these conditions, clarifies the difference between joint hypermobility as a trait versus a medical diagnosis, and reviews current adult and pediatric diagnostic criteria. The talk highlights why diagnosis can be difficult—especially in kids—and discusses new research, including genetic and immune system findings. Dr. Cohen-Solomon also covers common pediatric symptoms, how they differ from adults, impacts on daily life and school, and practical considerations such as monitoring, accommodations, and avoiding early dismissal of affected children.

This presentation was followed by a Q&A and was presented completely virtually on October 30th. (2025)
