Emily is a medical student at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is expected to graduate with a Doctor in Medicine in May 2027. She is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a double minor in Chemistry and Medical Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Since beginning medical school, Emily has served as the clinic coordinator of the Gynecology HOPES Free Clinic, the REVIVE! Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education Program student lead, and one of the founding co-presidents of the first Medical Students with Disability and Chronic Illness (MSDCI) chapter in Virginia.

After searching for the cause of what had been making her progressively sicker for over a year, Emily was diagnosed with Chiari I malformation in September 2024, and syringomyelia a month later. She received decompression surgery in November 2024.

While in recovery, Emily began researching with the Bobby Jones Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation to positively impact patient autonomy and outcomes. She is excited to use her position as a patient, researcher, and future doctor to continue spreading awareness of Chiari and syringomyelia to ensure patients feel represented and understood.
