FOREWORD FROM A FELLOW PATIENT
“Below you will find a list of items that I have found to assist me as I have navigated a life of chronic pain. I am passing this forward in the hopes that something on the list might also help you gain some relief or happiness. I don’t work for any of these companies, so I assure you I have no personal gain. I wish you the best in your journey!” – Ellen Icochea (Patient – Greater Metropolitan Washington Area)
Mediflow Pillow: This is the BEST PILLOW EVER! It is a water pillow. You can fill it as softly or firmly as you need to support you. This was especially perfect after my cranial/cervical fusion
McCartys Sacro Ease Wedge Ease: Excellent for sitting and to reduce road vibration in the car. Especially good to go home after spinal surgery!
Healthy Back Leg Wedge: Helped reduce some of the pain of my tethered cord when I got home from work. I also slept with it each night prior to surgery.
Healthy Back Hot/Cold Therapy: Private Collection – I couldn’t locate it on the website today, but perhaps a store near you would have one. It is the best I’ve ever had. It lays flat or easily molds around you. It stays cold all night while you sleep on it!
Thera Cane: Good for trigger points, especially if you can’t reach the spot!
Brookstone. nap® Massaging Bed Rest: I have a much older version what I received as a gift. Mine has a heat and massage function. Because of my nerve pain, I hated the massage (which is actually vibration) function. But each person is different, you might love it!
Elemis Instant Refreshing Gel: Wonderful product from London, England to relieve muscle tension. Contains Arnica, Birch, Witch Hazel with Camphor and Menthol. However, it doesn’t smell like BenGay!
Women’s Shoes: If you are in a professional environment and need good shoes these are fashionable and professional. Designed by an orthopedic doctor. You don’t have to look frumpy to feel good!
Especially anything by Ms. Belleruth Naperstack. I have numerous CDs of hers. My favorite is called “A Meditation to Promote Successful Surgery.” I also love “A Meditation to Help Ease Pain.” Sign up for her email newsletter.
